I’ve been taking workshops to refine my palette knife techniques, and it’s been such an enjoyable journey. I may have discovered my artistic voice through this process. The looseness, texture, and if underpainting in my work seem to come alive more than ever before. When creating a landscape, I typically use a red underpainting to establish the composition. Then, I layer it with various shades of green, which, in artistic terms, make the colors vibrate with energy. I love how the subtle hints of red peek through the painting, adding a painterly quality, while the palette knives bring incredible texture to my landscapes. With florals I use a similar process, but the underpainting will likely be a complimentary color to achieve the color vibration. I hope you can tell how happy I am using the palette knives!
“When you buy something from an artist, you’re buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying one thing, you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul….a small piece of someone else’s life.”
I don’t know who wrote this sentiment, but it is so true.
